I have made a lot of studies in antivirus and computer security, and I haven’t asked this question for antivirus recommendations. I just want to know what essential things are needed in an antivirus software (basically a security software). Further, vote for:
Antivirus which:
a. Has the lease memory usage –>
b. Scans the fastest –>
c. Doesn’t miss a single malware in its virus definitions –>
d. Has the easiest user interface –>
e. As a whole is the best antivirus –>
OK guys, hope you will get it right.
Thanks for answering !!!

Hey ! Thanks for the question. That’s really a cool one.
OK, in my view, a good antivirus software is one which has all the characteristics you mentioned above, and for the voting:
a. ESET NOD32 Antivirus / ESET Smart Security
b. ESET NOD32 Antivirus / ESET Smart Security
c. Kaspersky Antiviurs
d. Kaspersky Antivirus
e. Kaspersky Antivirus
Well, that’s what I think. Thanks for a good question.
I really enjoyed answering this ! ! !
Your answer is here at malware test lab.
and here
I recommend and use Avast, because it has low memory usage, fast scans, the GUI is great but for some takes a while to get used to the ‘cd player’ look. It also has Anti-spyware, Anti-rootkit, Antivirus kernel, Automatic updates, Integrated Virus Cleaner, International Languages, Network Shield, P2P and IM Shields, Resident protection, Simple User Interface, Strong self-protection, Support for 64-bit Windows Systems and works on Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP/Vista
I don’t believe that there is any ONE antivirus that misses malware although this also depends upon regular automatic updates.
Using 2 is counter-productive as it uses too many resources, causes conflicts and false positives, therefore I would also recommend using online free scanners as a safety measure:
F-Secure:
ESET:
Ewido anti-spyware and anti-malware: - Requires Internet Explorer
Housecall:
BitDefender;
Many will also say that FREE versions are not as effective, but bear in mind that the vendor hopes thay the user will upgrade to the paid for version, therefore if it was of poor quality as it was free, no one would ever upgrade! Many, but not all, of the free versions have less functionality. The virus definitions are the same in both the free version and the paid version.
